India and Coronavirus

Coronavirus (COVID 2019) which is originated in China causing chills in the world country's spines with nearly 860,170 infections around the globe, 42 thousand deaths and 1.78 lakh recoveries till date (i.e, 01.04.2020 01:00 PM IST). Of the countries, Italy, China, Spain and U.S are effected at the worst.

What is the situation of India now?

India has reported 1397 positive cases with 35 deaths and made 123 recoveries. India has announced complete lock-down for 21 days starting from March 25 midnight to control the spread of virus. If we strictly follow the lock-down and self isolate ourselves we can succeed in controlling the virus by breaking the spread chain.

Why is the complete Lock-down, Self Isolation or Social Distancing whatever you call is necessary and much needed in India now?

Let's see some figures here before we answer the question:

ITALY:

It has ranked 2nd in the World Healthcare, has the population density of 206 per Sq.KM.
The possibility of community transmission of virus is less when compared to high population dense countries. It ignored the precautions (social distancing) and now facing the consequences. Country now has 1.05 lakh positive cases with 12428 deaths, highest by any country and making the situation worse day by day. In Italy the spread for the virus has no stop. All these happened in the span of just 30 days!!

SPAIN:

It has ranked 7th in the World Healthcare, has the population density of 91.4 per Sq.KM, which shows a very less possibility of community transmission. Although it followed few precautionary measures it couldn't able to contain the virus. Country saw nearly 96 thousand positive cases and 8464 deaths stood second after Italy. The situation here too getting worse everyday seeing an average of 700 deaths a day.

U.S:

The most advanced country in the world. It has ranked 37th in the World Healthcare, has the population density of 36 per Sq.KM, the lowest. Local and Community transmission can be easily restricted. The country was reluctant to the spread of virus, it put the it's economy ahead of the people of the country. Now it is paying it's price. Country is seeing a rapid rise in the number of positive cases. On an average we seeing the cases rise by nearly 20 thousand in a day. Now the country has 1.9 lakh positive cases, highest by any country and 4 thousand deaths. It is estimated that the death toll will go upto 1 lakh in U.S alone.

CHINA:

It has ranked 144th in the World Healthcare. It has the population density of 145 per Sq.KM, possibility of community transmission is very less. As the epicenter of the outbreak of virus, country saw 81 thousand positive cases with 3300+ deaths. Only few new cases reporting in a day in the country, we can say it's efficient measures to contain the virus had succeeded.

INDIA:

It has ranked 112th in the World Healthcare, has the population density of 464 per Sq.KM, which is very huge. Local and Community transmission of virus is very likely if we don't take very strict precautionary measures.

Now, the answer to the above question:

Right now we are in the second stage of transmission, cases are increasing slowly. If proper precautions are not taken and if we entered into third stage of transmission, the number of positive cases could rise exponentially. One of the researches shows that if we don't maintain social distance and take proper precautions, India alone could see a 13 lakh positive cases by mid of May and we can't even imagine the death toll.

Is India ready to handle such huge impact? Is our Medical Support System capable enough to accommodate and treat that many infected persons?

The answer is NO.

Here are the few facts to justify the answer:

India Population: 133.92 Crores.
Number of COVID-19 test centers: 52.
Number of Doctors: 11,54,686.
Number of Hospitals: 23,852.
Number of Beds: 8,07,057.
Lakhs of Doctors, Paramedics, Medical Staff, Police and Administrative Staff are working tirelessly day and night for us. They are our nation heros. We should help them, don't be a burden to them.

Stay Home. Stay Safe.

The consequences will be immeasurable if we don't follow. This is an appeal to our Nation, by our Nation and for our Nation.
